Stripe charges a fee for each successful payment they process. Visit their website (https://stripe.com/en-bg/pricing) for more information on Stripe’s services and pricing.

II. Strong Customer Authentication readiness

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is a rule in effect as of September 14, 2019, as part of PSD2 regulation in Europe, requires changes to how customers authenticate online payments. Card payments also require a different user experience, namely 3D Secure, in order to meet SCA requirements. Transactions that don’t follow the new authentication guidelines may be declined by customers’ banks.

To support SCA, we upgraded Stripe – Booking Autopilot interface to support SCA to avoid declined payments.

While some low-risk transactions (based on the volume of fraud rates associated with the payment provider or bank) do not require authentication, banks can choose to not honour these exemptions and request that the customer complete authentication. Even if we’re primarily processing low-risk transactions, we need to update our integration so our customers can complete authentication when requested by the bank. Stripe’s new products and APIs help us claim these exemptions and maximize conversion by only requesting authentication when absolutely necessary.

III. How cards work – the “one-time payments” process

Cards are one of the most popular ways to pay online, with broad global reach. There are different types of cards and several steps in the process. To build a Stripe integration that supports all of your customers, see what goes on behind the scenes of a card payment.

1. Checking card details

Stripe checks that the details provided are formatted correctly (e.g., the expiry date is not in the past). There is no guarantee that the card itself is valid yet.

2. Customer authentication

Some banks, especially in regulated regions like Europe and India, may prompt the customer to authenticate a purchase (e.g., by texting the customer a code to enter on the bank’s website).

3. Authorization

The bank checks for sufficient funds and, if successful, holds the amount on the customer’s account to guarantee it for the merchant.

4. Capture

The money moves from the issuing bank to the merchant’s account.

5. 3D Secure

3D Secure is explained in the following video:

IV. Stripe Connect for franchisees and centres

Booking Autopilot uses Stripe Connect to simplify Stripe onboarding. The API keys previously required for Stripe payment method configuration, are now replaced with the “Connect with Stripe” button.

When you click the “Connect with Stripe” button you’ll be redirected to Stripe login page. Follow the Stripe Connect Onboarding flow, at the end of the flow you will be redirected back to Booking Autopilot’s payment methods configuration page.

Even if you have used Stripe before, Stripe payments will be disabled until you Connect with Stripe. Follow the instructions to connect and then enable the payment method.

From the same Booking Autopilot configuration page you can Disconnect your account from Stripe at any time.
